Your Body Is Leaving Clues: How to Interpret Metabolic Biomarker Results

Your body is leaving clues every single day. The number on the scale is one clue. The way your clothes fit is another. So is the afternoon energy crash, the sleep that doesn't refresh you, the weight that creeps up even though you "haven't changed a thing."

Most people only read one of those clues: the scale. And the scale is a liar. It can't tell you whether you lost fat or muscle, and it can't tell you why your body is holding on to weight in the first place.

In 35 years as a fat-loss coach, I've learned that long-term victory over weight management doesn't come from the next diet. It comes from building on a strong foundation, and from reading all the clues your body is giving you. One of the most powerful sets of clues is hiding in your blood.

Long-Term Victory Starts With a Strong Foundation

Before we talk about blood work, you need to know the principles every MBO client builds on. These never change:

  • Fat loss, not weight loss. Losing weight is easy. Losing fat while protecting muscle is what changes your body for good. In 35 years, I've never met a client with too much muscle.

  • Measure, don't guess. Every client gets their own Omron body-composition monitor, so we track weight, body fat, visceral fat, metabolic rate and body age. Not just a number on a scale.

  • Predict, then prove. Before we start, I give each client a predicted rate of fat loss and muscle gain. Then we measure against it.

  • Foods you already like. Your menus come from everyday grocery-store foods. No special meals, no foods you'll quit in three weeks.

  • Work with your hormones, not against them. Your Glyco-Cycle® is built around your body's own insulin and glucagon rhythm.

That last principle is where the blood test comes in.

Why a Single Number Tells You Almost Nothing

The biggest mistake I see is people fixating on one result, like glucose or cholesterol, as if it's the whole story. It never is.

A single blood value is one sentence pulled out of a conversation. A glucose reading on the high side could reflect a developing problem, a hard workout the day before, a poor night's sleep or a long stretch without food. On its own, the number can't tell you which.

And "normal" doesn't always mean optimal. Reference ranges are built from large groups of people of different ages, body types and health histories. A result can sit inside the normal range and still be moving in the wrong direction for you. That's why I look at patterns and trends, not single numbers against a generic range.

Why I Use a 120-Biomarker Blood Test

A standard comprehensive metabolic panel looks at about 14 markers: blood sugar, kidney and liver function, and electrolytes. That's useful, but it leaves out much of what drives fat loss.

The 120-biomarker panel we use goes much further. It looks at blood sugar control, insulin, cholesterol and triglycerides, thyroid function, inflammation, hormones and key vitamins and minerals. Together, they show me how your body is actually handling the food you eat and the energy you store.

Here's the part most programs miss: those blood clues mean the most when they're matched with your body-composition numbers.

  • Blood sugar on the high side plus rising body fat and falling muscle tells one story.

  • The same blood sugar plus stable muscle and low body fat tells a completely different one.

  • A "normal" result at the edge of the range plus elevated visceral fat is a clue worth acting on early.

The Omron gives us the numbers. The blood work gives us the clues. Coaching turns both into a plan.

How the Blood Clues Build Your Glyco-Cycle

Your Glyco-Cycle is a repeating three-day cycle: two Fat-Burning days and one Recovery day. I think of insulin and glucagon like hot and cold water: one stores energy, the other releases it. The goal is to turn each on and off at the right time, so your body burns fat while protecting muscle.

The 120-biomarker results help me set that cycle for your body:

  • How your body handles carbohydrates shapes how we balance your Fat-Burning and Recovery days.

  • Thyroid and hormone markers help explain why the scale has stopped responding, and set realistic expectations.

  • Inflammation and nutrient markers point to what needs support so your body can recover and hold on to muscle.

That's why two clients the same age and weight can walk out with very different Glyco-Cycles. One-size-fits-all plans ignore the clues. We build on them.

What This Is and What It Isn't

The blood test is not a diagnosis, and I'm not your doctor. If something in your results needs medical attention, we'll tell you so you can take it to your physician. Many of the doctors I've worked with over the years started out as my clients. Good coaching and good medicine work best together.

Frequently Asked Questions

My blood work came back "normal," but I still can't lose weight. Why?

Normal ranges are population averages, not your personal best. Several results sitting at the edge of normal, combined with rising body fat or visceral fat, often explain what a single number can't.

Why do you need both the blood test and the Omron?

The blood test shows what's happening inside. The Omron shows what's happening to your body: fat, muscle, visceral fat and metabolic rate. Together they reveal the pattern. Separately, they leave you guessing.

How is the 120-biomarker test different from my yearly physical?

A typical annual panel covers around 14 core markers. The 120-biomarker panel adds thyroid, inflammation, hormones and key nutrients, the areas that most affect fat loss and muscle.

Will I have to give up foods I like?

No. Your Glyco-Cycle menus are built from everyday grocery-store foods you already enjoy. The clues tell us how to arrange them.

Stop Guessing. Start Reading the Clues.
